Mothership (2018)

Recommend:

Overview

Mothership is an action-packed mixture of sci-fi and horror themes, combined into a streamlined gaming system about surviving in the cold, deadly vacuum of space while everything around you is trying to kill you. All at the same time as you are fighting (or fleeing from) alien creatures who aren't there to make any new friends. Chaos. It was published by Tuesday Knight Games and released in 2024.  It is a survival horror system designed for one-shots and campaigns, inspired by classics like Alien, Event Horizon, and Pandorum. Famous for its streamlined ruleset and award-winning graphic design that prioritizes ease of use at the table. The game, at the same time simplistic and streamlined in design, will challenge the characters at all times, allowing the game to focus on the storytelling and less on having complicated rules. The system it is inspired by is Description In Mothership, players take on the roles of blue collar workers in space, such as Teamsters, Scientists, Androids, and Marines. You are not powerful or heroic soldiers; you are vulnerable humans trapped in high pressure environments with alien monsters, failing life support systems and the crushing weight of corporate greed. The game is designed to be fast-paced and unforgiving, where the primary goal is not to win, but often enough - to survive. System Overview & Key Features
d100 Percentile Resolution In the core of the game system is the d100 percentile system. Roll two d10 dice and get a number from 00 to 99. Success means rolling a lower result than your character's appropriate stat or skill for the task. Rolling a double, like 11, 22, or 33, is considered a critical success if it succeeds or a critical failure if it fails. Rolling low is the target for survival.
Stress and Panic As characters encounter horrors or suffer trauma, they accumulate Stress. When a character experiences a terrifying event or rolls a critical failure they must make a Panic Check. The more Stress they have, the more likely they are to suffer a catastrophic mental breakdown, ranging from a heart attack to a violent psychotic break.
The Save System Instead of a long list of saving throws, characters have four primary Saves: Sanity, Fear, Body, and Armor. These are used to resist different types of potential trauma. Fear saves are rolled to keep your cool under pressure, while Sanity saves represent your ability to process alien truths without losing your mind (think lovecraftian horrors).
Class Based Skills The game features four distinct classes. Marines are obviously combat focused, Teamsters are pilots and laborers, Scientists are experts in medicine and biology, and Androids are cold calculating, yet efficient machines. Each class has it's unique starting stats and specific triggers for when they gain or lose Stress, which is based on their personality.
Lethal Combat and Healing Combat is extremely dangerous and often a last resort. Weapons are likely to deal potentially excessive damage when compared to a character's total healthpool. Healing will be slow and require resources that are hard to come by in the middle of the constant crisis, making every injury feel like a significant threat to the character's chances of making it out alive.
Deadly Ship-to-Ship Combat The game includes a streamlined system for starship encounters. Ships have their own stats and modules that are likely to be damaged during a fight. Players must work together to manage various roles and stations, like Engineering or Piloting, to keep the ship's hull from breaching while under fire or fleeing from cosmic anomalies.

-18+     -2-4 Players*     -up to 2x Weekly Campaign     -Expected to last up to 8 weeks     -2-3 hour sessions     -Discord voice, Roll20     -Sundays and Wednesdays at 8pm US central *Core players are set, if you would like to try it out as a one shot, you can join for a game and then decide if you'd like to stay. Homebrewed to perfection. -Armor tweaks for combat -After taking a wound you only get back half your HP -New weapons, gear, items for the setting -Mech rules adapted from Gordinaak and expanded upon -New classes Paimon II The harsh planet of Paimon II is a hellscape. Coca Cola, Osidiro Empirical, and Golidtor arms are some of the major players vying for control. Rich with oil, precious metals, and its position outside of a POWER's reach, no government has control here. The rings that orbit the planet are untouched, for those who attempted to recover them discovered wonderfully new life forms that made sure they did not report their findings. On the Eastern side of the Caidorin continent lies the un-zone. Ships fight to get away, animals fight beloved owners that dare lead them near it, and satellites decommission themselves over it. Having lighter gravity than average, mechs are employed heavily. They are used interchangeably with more standard infantry support vehicles. Often no taller than 2 stories nor wider than a big street, urban warfare proliferates across the globe. Note: Mechs here are often bipedal with no torso, just a cockpit with weapons mounted around it. Mechs with arms exist but are often more expensive due to the maintenance and complexity. Setting All companies import civilians to replace those lost in their corporate wars. The masses are led by a deceitful carrot, their prize harsh lives where they swim in useless precious materials. Silicon, Gold, and Titanium are used as currency, where only the corps regulate and use them to their potential. You are a mercenary, no better than a dog. Pilot, anti-armor unit, or soldier, you fight to survive. Whether you were born here or brought here, tickets out of here are rare and expensive... In the northern isles of Paimon II exist mines that cover entire landmasses. Recently, rumors have begun to spread that the corporations have dug too deep, too greedily, unearthing ancient beings. Fortunately the company rep assured you that those claims are false. You're simply being sent to quell bust some unions and safeguard the mines. You'll be paid the usual and work alongside their soldiers. Hmm, apparently a wide range of mercenary companies are also being hired to deploy in the area... Contract missions Players will be free to accept contracts where they'd wish. Their actions will effect their standings with the different companies and allow them to shape the war. Think armored core. Players can be mech pilots, anti-armor units, or supporting soldiers, each will have their place in every mission. Combat between them can be described as a rock-paper-scissors. Preparation for all combat will be important as lethality is maintained for all groups. Ambushes, tactics, and clever ideas will be necessary to get that high score. Players could even reject missions a session and go out on their own, but doing so will be expensive. Background events will continue and be shaped by decisions. Maybe one company prevails, maybe they are all defeated, maybe something terrible happens to everyone. Join and see! Please respond to the following if interested: You do not have to answer question 2 if intersted as a one shot.     -Do you have a computer with a good microphone and good connection? (also noise cancelling or a quiet background to not distract others)     -Would you be willing to do shorter sessions of 1-2 hours more than once a week?     -Confirm that you could show up reliably to sessions.     -What character would you like to play?

Hello, I'm looking for players to help me get my chops back after a few years away from the table. Things have changed a lot and I'm a bit intimidated by the scene. I'm hoping to run various rpgs, in two hour blocks on Mondays - Fridays, 10am-2:30pm, while my youngest is in school. I run old school Fantasy and new school Sci-fi. I especially love the Fate System and I'm currently into Savage Worlds and Tricube Tales. Let's throw dice together!
