Description
TLDR: Oldbeard gamer with wide experience and resources looking for online RPG to overcome some personal mobility difficulties.
Long Version: I’ve been an active RPG and TTRPG player since the early 80s. My first games were D&D ‘Keep on the Borderlands’, Rogue Trader, and MERP. Since then, I’ve played and collected a ridiculously large number of games. *
My regular gaming circle are all “magpie gamers” and drift in and out of multiple games, so getting into a regular, ongoing campaign is rare. I’m also now working through some mobility problems so I have been investigating a range of online options so I can get into a regular RPG that has potential for long-term involvement.
What am I looking for – A fortnightly or weekly online RPG. Preferably D&D but I’m open to any of the games I’ve listed below really. Ideally I love to get involved in a long-running campaign where characters and worlds can develop and evolve. I’m more than willing to play a number of shorter adventures to find a compatible group.
When am I available – I can adjust my schedule for multiple time zones. I’m in Australian Eastern Standard (AEST) and could conceivably do most weekdays or nights by arrangement.
Where – Online. I have access to full video and voice communication, and I already have a range of software options (paid and unpaid) that I’m vaguely familiar with.
Useful Information – I am an occasional writer and have always been a ‘journalist’ for my gaming adventures. I can reasonably guarantee a weekly ‘in-character write-up’ to be shared with the party members.
Gaming Idiosyncrasies – I have played and DM’d narrative or clunky games easily enough. I am a believer in the mechanic of “if the player can’t think of something then that’s what abilities and dice are for” to keep games flowing when the players genuinely can’t think their way through a situation. I’ve frequently played a method where ingenious roleplaying gives ‘auto-success’ or multiple advantages/bonuses to dice so as to reward thinking PC’s but not discourage clueless PC’s. I’ve always been very invested in the background lore of the gaming environment as well so I’m always reading the ‘fluff’ and trying to incorporate it into my games in a realistic manner.
* Ridiculously large number of games include – DnD, MERP, Rolemaster, Traveller, Jame Bond RPG, Gamma World, Twilight 2000, Recon, Paranoia, Star Wars (Fantasy Flight), Starfinder, WHFRP, Dark Heresy (and variants), Wrath and Glory, Fallout, Pirate Borg (and variants), Death Match Island, Munchausen, Shadowrun, Fragged, Genesys, Iron Kingdoms Requiem, Infinity, Lancer, Fiasco, Pathfinder, WH40K, WHFB, WHTOW, Kill Team, Heroquest, Spacehulk, Space Marine, Epic 40K, Battlefleet Gothic, Dropfleet, Heroquest, Vanguard, Kings of War, Necromunda, Mordheim, Saga, Warmachine, Battletech, Bloodbowl, Carnevale, Gaslands, Dark Future, Car Wars, Judge Dredd, and more others than I can remember right now…
