Ok let’s me set the stage this is not a D&D campaign set in the mtg universe this a D&D campaign set in present day think of this like playing out the yugioh anime just mtg cards instead. Now let me lay down gameplay expectations: 1st “Combat” • ⁠most of if not all combat will be done via MTG games on digital that being the case you’d probably want to play an class for its out of combat features rather then its in combat ones 2nd Spell-casting • ⁠I want to keep the low magic of the setting so if you want to play a spellcaster unless your character’s deck or collection has a mtg equivalent of the spell you want to cast you won’t be able to cast it. 3rd Jank • ⁠Especially during the early level I want to enforce the this janky work with what you have feeling you get when you first start playing a new card game there would be ways to get better cards but they will be few and far between. Now for the premise : Almost 30 years ago around 1997 on June 6th the world shifted not everyone noticed but those who did now bear the title of Wizard. Magic the gathering a card game made by wizards of the coast had hidden behind it a great power magic not the way most people would assume you can’t summon storms or change reality just like that at least not outside of battle. Wizards can challenge each other in a battle winning a battle gains a wizard more magic power increasing the amount of spells they can use and like wise losing would diminish the other Wizards power. These basic rules would start some of the most pitiful and hateful “wars” among the newly empowered Wizards in the world who were mostly teenagers and young adults who were considered outcasts or loners……..yeah I think you guess how fast this turned into a shit show it would of been almost funny if it weren’t for the fact that if someone takes a substantial amount of excess damage in a battle they can actually get hurt very badly like paralysed from the waste down badly. Nevertheless at least the general public doesn’t know about this because they can’t see it from what I’ve gathered only Wizards can see the battles and other spells they cast witch could mean all this was just a collective fever dream that has spread through a few generations and is still going to this day… am rabbling again. The second Generation who would awaken their magic going from 2008-2020 is in my opinion where shit really hit the fan with the first generation poisoning the second to the point where literal gangs of nerds would come out and start jumping duel colour Wizards. The first generation had mostly mono colour Wizards but the ones that were lucky enough to get two colours at least most of them boasted about it to point of prejudice and a lot of them would corner mono colour Wizards and jump them leading into those stories being told to the second generation Wizards which most of were again teens and young adults witch were very impressionable and this lead to a “hit them first so they don’t cripple me later” mentally for most of the mono colour Wizards at the time. Most gangs would disband after an awhile or after being forced to by a certain someone. The third generation referring to people who have awaken magic from 2021-present day are in my opinion so far the most tame generation a lot of mono colour Wizards more then any other generation before. The second generation would attempt to commit generational hatred but there efforts were mostly for nothing seeing as most kids these days have critical thinking skills and realised that this enter mono vs multi colour war was just stupid outright oh tho sadly not enough to not reform one big mono colour gang. On a more positive note a lot more neutral no combat areas started popping up in card and hobby shops no fighting no petty arguments just people talking about there favourite game…and then the guild syndicate came around and fucked it all up a exclusively multicoloured group of wizards that proved the worries of the mono colour gang true and restarted the cycle of unneeded violence…….greeeet. So here we are living in a shity city full of shity people all I can say good luck to the new Wizards and god bless.
