Hi, I am currently running an Imperium Maledictum campaign for a group of Infractionists. The characters have found themselves—by choice, fate, or ill fortune—outside the usual societal structures of the hive, trying to get by while fulfilling the not-always-easy requests of their patron. The overall tone is close to the book: grim, gritty, perilous, and low-level. Still, the game isn’t meant to be a character graveyard. There is room for non-combat characters, but everyone should have at least something they can do in a fight, even if it’s just firing off the occasional laspistol salvo with a desperate prayer to the Emperor. So far, the group has driven a small ring of drug dealers off the local market—so that the dealer who contacted their patron can take over the turf. They’ve rescued a helpless child from a gang planning to use him to blackmail his mother—so their patron can blackmail the mother herself. And they had the task to reunite a wife with her missing husband, only to discover he’d been stealing everything from her; she still wanted him back to prove his death and claim the inheritance.
