Looking for a group Francisco

Francisco

Description

Hi, I'm Francisco. I'm in Zone 2 East and looking for a weekly in-person game using the 2024 rules, on weeknights after 6pm (GMT). I can travel to Zone 1 or anywhere in East Zone 2; west of the centre isn't workable for me on a weeknight. I'm reliable, and I show up. I've played for years and I've run games from behind the screen, which mostly means I know how much work the DM is doing. I'm not a rules lawyer and I'm not a min-maxer; I'd rather play something characterful than something optimal. I'm fine with characters dying, as long as it's earned. What I'm really here for is intrigue, mystery and investigation: pulling on threads, working out who's lying, and proper exploration where the map is the puzzle. I'll fight when the fight comes, but wall-to-wall combat isn't what I'm hunting for. I'm looking for a table that takes the game seriously and plays as a party: shared scenes, a group that solves problems together, and a plot that stays the point. If the table's centre of gravity is romancing every NPC, or one player disappearing into a solo heist for half a session, I'm probably not the right fit. No judgement; it's just a different game to the one I want. For a sense of my taste: Daniel Polansky's Low Town and Joe Abercrombie's First Law. Morally grey, character-driven, funny in a bleak way. I have a character I'm itching to run: a hundred-year-old dhampir bard of the College of Dance. He was a washed-up Baldur's Gate busker who wandered into a vampire ball, was meant to be dinner, and got turned instead because one bored sybarite found him funny. That sybarite is still out there and can no longer taste anything, so my bard travels as his maker's surrogate palate, sending letters home about the finest wine he's had this month. The vampiric hunger reskins neatly into that: he'll bankrupt himself for a good bottle and refuse a bad one at genuinely stupid cost. He is not a good dancer. He's a drunk who moves wrong, with a hundred years of practice at looking like he's about to fall over and never quite doing it. Think Laszlo Cravensworth by way of Jack Sparrow: waxed Van Dyke, a faded ribbon in his hair, thirty-year-out-of-date velvet gone shiny at the elbows. He pronounces confident verdicts on everything and commits to them even when he's plainly wrong, tells a different version of his life story every time he tells it, and doesn't always know himself whether the stagger is an act. He carries a hand drum and a flute that predate his turning, the only two objects left that knew him when he was alive and the only things he won't trade. He can't read a room's politics off a book, but give him three minutes in a crowded tavern and he's clocked everyone in it. He's comic relief, but he's comic relief who does the job. I play for the party, not for the bit. And I'm happy to build fresh for your world instead if that suits the campaign better.
