Overview

Shadowrun is a science fantasy tabletop role-playing game set in an alternate future in which cybernetics, magic and fantasy creatures co-exist. The game has gone through multiple variations and versions, since its first release in 1989, the latest "Sixth World" game system was published in 2019, by Catalyst Game Labs. It combines genres of cyberpunk, urban fantasy, and crime, with occasional elements of conspiracy, horror, and detective fiction. The system it directly evolved from is
Shadowrun 5th Edition
Description Shadowrun takes place several decades in the future (2050 in the first edition, currently 2088). The end of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar ushered in the "Sixth World" with once-mythological beings (e.g. dragons) appearing and forms of magic suddenly emerging. Large numbers of humans have "Goblinized" into orks and trolls, while many human children are born as elves, dwarves, and even more exotic creatures. The Shadowrun world is cross-genre, incorporating elements of both cyberpunk and urban fantasy. Unlike in a purely cyberpunk game, in the Shadowrun world, magic exists and has "worked" since 2011. System Overview & Key Features
The d6 Dice Pool The core resolution engine uses a massive pool of six sided dice. To attempt a test, a player adds their relevant Attribute and Skill together, then rolls that many dice. Every 5 or 6 rolled counts as a "hit" and players need to roll a certain number of hits to succeed.
The Edge System In the Sixth World edition, Edge is a fluid tactical resource. Instead of tracking dozens of tiny situational modifiers, characters earn Edge points during a fight by having a superior position, better gear, or catching the enemy off guard. These points are spent immediately for rerolls or special combat actions.
The Three Worlds The game takes place across three distinct layers of reality. Physical combat happens in meatspace, hackers project their consciousness into the virtual reality of the Matrix, and mages project their spirits into the magical Astral Plane. A well balanced team must handle threats from all three directions at once.
Magic and Drain Spellcasters do not use spell slots. Instead, they can cast spells as often as they like, but channeling arcane energy takes a physical toll. Every time a spell is cast, the mage must resist "Drain" which can cause severe stun or physical damage if they are not careful.

In the twisting sub-streets of Ward 46 of the Greater Los Angeles Protection Area lies a little bar called the Nob. That's where you hang out, waiting for your fixer to hook you up with jobs that might be enough to break even on your shitty-ass apartment. Then she walks in: Piranha. Tall and lithe, an elf who clearly comes from money. She goes up to Sam, your bartender and fixer, insisting on the best damn runners in the city. You happen to be the lucky sobs who are the only runners in the bar at the moment, so he points her to your table. And that's how you get started on a job that will take you deep into the heart of Renraku's R&D department, tangling with lethal security forces, where you will risk drawing the attention of Haruhiko Nakada himself, the infamous CEO of Renraku. But you still have no idea how deep this rabbit hole actually goes... * * * We will be using 3rd edition, the classic that I grew up on. Reviews of more recent editions have not inspired me to switch. 3e may be a beast, but I've got pages of reference material that I've put together to help make it more accessible, as well as a custom interactive pdf character sheet, which you can find here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Shadowrun/comments/1b08mi4/shadowrun_3e_character_sheet_and_quick_reference/ This is a stand-alone mini-campaign of 3-5 sessions, including a session 0 for character creation. However, it could also act as "Episode 1" for a longer campaign. We could move on to "Episode 2" after this one is done if folks have had fun and would like to continue.  The cost is $25 per session on StartPlaying.games. It is open to both experienced and new players.

I'm Alex! Teacher from Germany in my 30s, love to read and design campaigns, usually DMing one or two games a week myself, big gamer and movie enjoyer as well. I'm mostly a harmony seeking type, but I've RPed enough that I can handle some heat as well. You likely won't find me strategizing things out mid combat, I'll try to stay in character because I love the immersion, and I usually try to keep things tonally consistent. Looking forward to play with y'all!

Old enough to have played AD&D 2nd Ed, but not so set in my ways that I don't enjoy D&D 5E. Looking for long-term campaigns and interested to try new systems and genres of game.

Patchwork
Hi, I'm Patchwork. I'm a 20-something geek who enjoys spending his time on various TTRPGs. My previous group fell apart due to scheduling issues, as most do, so I'm here looking for something new! I'm mostly into the roleplaying aspect of tabletop games, I enjoy immersing myself in whatever character and world I'm put into, and bouncing off party hijinks! I usually put a lot of effort and a decent amount of writing into my characters and their backstories, but I usually do that as a creative writing exercise, and never expect a DM to know it front-to-back (I always put a summarization/TL;DR first). But if you do, all the better! In terms of systems and experience with VTTs, you can already see what systems I've looked into/played, and I've gamed a bunch in Roll20 and Foundry, so I'll have no issues navigating either of those VTTs. But if you have something new, I'm always willing to learn! As for the kind of games I'm looking for, I've been playing Fantasy for quite a long time now, and I'm hoping to get into some Sci-fi settings, and trying out systems in that niche. But if you have a fantasy setting that's unique and interesting, I'm up for hearing about it, I might still be interested in playing! Thanks for reading, and hopefully we can share a table sometime!
